Artist Statement
I crafted this piece while transitioning between two series, ‘Exposed’ and ‘Behind Closed Doors,’ both of which address issues of domestic violence, sexual violation, and social injustice. In the midst of such heavy themes, ‘The Inner Child’ serves as a breath of fresh air, offering a moment of respite and reflection.
This piece is a celebration of innocence and playfulness, a reminder of the joy and wonder that reside within us all. The inner child is impressionable and free, embodying a sense of wonder that can often be overshadowed by the complexities of adult life. Through vibrant colors juxtaposed against soft pastels, I aimed to evoke a sense of youthful exuberance and carefree spirit. The imagery of a girl, along with other abstract forms, is intentionally placed in an imperfect manner, creating a loose, relaxed quality that mirrors the spontaneity of childhood.
This painting stands as a heartfelt reminder of a time when innocence was abundant, inviting viewers to reconnect with their own inner child and embrace the beauty of life’s simplicity amidst the challenges we face.
