Artist Statement
 

"Yonge Life" captures a vibrant snapshot of Toronto’s iconic Yonge Street, featuring the beloved Sam the Record Man, a symbol of the city’s rich cultural tapestry. This painting reflects my transformative year in Toronto during my early 20s, a time of exploration and discovery as I navigated life in a one-bedroom apartment.

Painted at the tail end of my 'New York' series, this work employs the same style and color palette, bridging my experiences in two dynamic cities. While immersing myself in the creative process, I unknowingly faced the challenges of working with toxic materials, leading to a profound personal awakening. This experience prompted me to adapt my living space, turning my bedroom into a studio and redefining my surroundings to prioritize both creativity and well-being.
