Artist Statement
 

“Punch and Lucy,” part of my series “Behind Closed Doors,” reflects a tumultuous period in my life marked by a painful “he said, she said” situation, where consequences eluded a perpetrator known to me through the justice system. The vibrant fluorescent colors capture the eye, yet they also conceal deeper, unsettling truths about human interaction.

Inspired by the traditional puppet show “Punch and Judy,” this piece subverts nostalgic humor to reveal the dangers lurking beneath playful façades. It challenges viewers to question the masks we wear and the hidden fears we often overlook. 

In the contrast of playfulness and peril, “Punch and Lucy” invites you to confront the complexities of identity and the unsettling realities that lie just beyond our perception.
