"The Face in the Mirror" was created during my time in art school and reflects the appearance of my 20-year-old self—nothing more, nothing less.

 

Inspired by Douglas Harding's philosophy, I now, as a 45 year old woman, understand that I am not just this face; I am the empty space through which the world unfolds. True connection arises when we transcend our personal suffering and ego, allowing us to engage with others more authentically.

 

At the time of creating this piece, I was unaware of these profound ideas, deeply attached to the subject matter rather than the essence of self. "The Face in the Mirror" serves as a testament to my evolving understanding of identity and the transformative power of art, inviting viewers to reflect on their own relationship with the self and the world.
